The folks at Daytripper Photo recently decided to find out what happens when you microwave a DSLR camera in the name of science. The 11-minute video above documents how the Nikon D60 and 18-135mm lens fared (spoiler: not well). The camera was placed in a microwave sitting out in the middle of a grassy yard.

After 5 minutes in the microwave, portions of the DSLR were beginning to melt. The LCD screen on the back had melted and things were falling apart in the grip area. A large patch of land in central Idaho has just been designated the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the country, and it’s one of only 12 such reserves on Earth. The designation was announced this week by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), which picked an area spanning 1,400 square miles (3,600 square km) from Ketchum/Sun Valley to Stanley. The reserve becomes the 3rd largest of the 12 reserves. IDA says that the designation comes after two decades of Idahoans working to limit light pollution on the region’s environment. In September, New Carlisle News photographer Andrew Grimm was shot by Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Shaw when the officer mistook Grimm's camera for a firearm. The incident, which was captured by Shaw's body camera, happened while Grimm was setting up his equipment to photograph Shaw, who was in the middle of a traffic stop. I've been noticing a lot of spots on my images when I am shooting at f/11+. I could really notice it when I am looking at the images large. I brought in both my Leica Monochrom and my Leica M9-P to Leica Ginza to have the sensors cleaned. My long time Leica customer service rep Naoki came out looking a bit concerned.

He informed me that both cameras sensors have significant corrosion on them. This is known problem for this Leica sensor.I have had this problem before and Leica replaced the sensors free of charge.

They offered to replace them again. Naoki also told me about a new program only at Leica Ginza for upgrading to the Leica SL and Leica M10.

Long story short they gave me a great deal to. Amazingly Japan has 17 public holidays. The way the holidays fall this year I end up with 6 long weekends this fall.

They have arranged them in such a way that you get a lot of long weekends. A few fall on Thursdays so you take Friday as a vacation day and get a 4 day weekend. This weekend happens to be one of them; 文化の日, or Culture Day was on Friday.

I didn't realize until the end of day on Thursday that Friday was a holiday. It was a nice surprise. I'm glad I'm not traveling much this fall so I can stay home with my family to enjoy them. I do have one last trip for the year. I'm going to go to Florida to visit my parents in early December.

I haven't seen them in two years so I'm. I looked at the images I've collected on my Monochrom after the past few weeks and they were all more or less of modes or places of transportation; Trains, Subways, Airplanes, Train Stations and Airports with very little scattered in between. That's the reality of business travel which I think is different than most people's image of it.

The photos understandable given the amount of travel I have been doing. I hope to have little travel for the rest of the year. I just checked my mileage status and I made Gold on United before dropping them as an Airline I use. I just can't support them anymore.

I was able to make Platinum on ANA in the latter half of the year. I was flying them anyways most of the. I just got back from recent trips to Ho Chi Minh City and Melbourne Australia. Both are places I haven't been to in a really long time. I was last in Ho Chi MInh was on a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with my dad. It has changed and developed so much since that time. It has been even longer since I have been to Melbourne.I was pretty busy with work in Vietnam.

I got out for a short walk but it was so hot that I didn't stay out that long. She's eighteen years old and very pretty and, moreover, happy (why are all Mennonites so well-adjusted? It has been a long time since all of that business went down, but if you happened to be an M9 owner the issue never truly went away. Myth – Professionals Only Shoot in Manual Mode I recently read an account of a new photographer who heard that “expert” photographers only shoot in manual mode, so he headed out to shoot. Camera firmly set to M, he shot away, happy as could be. However, the results from that first exploration were, needless to say, disappointing; overexposures, under-exposures, and a lot of crappy, blurred photos. I had about 10 seconds to make this image of a grove of Baobabs in Botswana.

Had I been fiddling with finding the right manual settings, I likely would have missed the shot. Here is the reality: Professionals and other. You’ve got a perfect macro subject, the perfect angle, and the perfect composition. You’ve checked your focus, and it’s spot on. Your finger hovers over the shutter button.

One quick press, and you’ll have the shot. It’s all there before youright? There’s one more thing that I’d urge you to check before you shoot – and that is the background. See, while subject, lighting, and setup matter a great deal in macro photography, the background matters too, far more than people often realize. This is quite understandable; it’s the background. As long as you’ve got the perfect subject, why worry?

But when it comes to macro photography, the background can make or break a shot. You’re often working with. The use of lens filters can transform your photograph completely, as it allows you to go beyond the usual and explore something creative with your gear. Among multiple filters, a circular polarizing filter (CPL) is one such creative tool using which you can enhance the final photo that appears on your camera LCD screen. 'The beauty in the genome is of course that it's so small. The human genome is only on the order of a gigabyte of data.which is a tiny little database. If you take the entire living biosphere, that's the assemblage of 20 million species or so that constitute all the living creatures on the planet, and you have a genome for every species the total is still about one petabyte, that's a million gigabytes - that's still very small compared with Google or the Wikipedia and it's a database that you can easily put in a small room, easily transmit from one place to another. And somehow mother nature manages to create this incredible biosphere, to create this incredibly rich environment of animals and plants with. While those pre-built collections in the Catalog panel (from last week) are all very useful in their own way there is another level of user-driven collections that you can leverage to fit your organizational needs.

This is where the Collections panel comes into play. The Collections Panel There are three types of collection tools found here: • Collection Sets – used for providing organizational structure • Collections – used for manually gathering up photos in various groupings • Smart Collections – a type of saved search that automatically finds photos matching specific criteria Collection sets can only contain collections, smart collections, or other collection sets, which is why they are. In my recent posts about the Folders panel a request was made to do a similar deep dive into collections, which I thought was a great idea since they are both used for organizational purposes, but are very different in nature. In the first part of this series I’m going to take a closer look at the often overlooked Catalog panel.

A key piece of data stored in the Lr Classic catalog is the location of each imported photo on your system, stored as a path, from the volume name (PC: drive letter) to the individual file name and all the folders in between (this is part of what we see in the Folders panel). This allows Lightroom to reference where each photo is stored, and when needed for working in Develop.

It’s new Lightroom features day! (whoo hoo!) We’ll start with Lightroom Classic version 7.1 update (it gets two new features, plus some new camera and tethering support). Here we go: (1) Feature #1 is a totally new reimagined “Auto” tone feature, with Adobe Sensei technology under the hood which analyzes your photo and then compares it to one of thousands of professionally edited images in its database, and it uses that info to create a better automatic adjustment for your image. A few years down the line, he moved to Singapore for work and asked her to move there with him. She chose to stay in Manila because her work was here, and she had promises to her family to keep. He understood, and waited again. After 9 years of being together, they tied the knot over the weekend. Twice, to be sure. They had two ceremonies — one Catholic and one Christian. We are most definitely in the midst of a golden age in the visual arts. Technology is making it possible to create billions of photographs every day. It’s also the time we start thinking about what we want to accomplish in the new year. I always like to create a list of goals at the beginning of each year, and check in on those goals throughout the year. But, I’ve never really set any photography-specific goals before.

So, for next year, I’m trying something new: for each month, I’m thinking of a specific image I want to create that month. For example, for January I want to create a black and white image of a creosote bush (a common plant in the California deserts): either an image showing one of. In the post, I specifically referred to photos that you originally overlooked and didn’t think were “good enough” to process and share. Well, I’ve recently realized how valuable it can be to also review all your photos that made it to the “good” pile, especially concentrating on your favorite images. Once we take a photo we’re proud of and post-process it and share it online or print it, we usually stop thinking about it. But, I think it’s really helpful to review these photos periodically for a variety of reasons.

Here are some things to think about when reviewing your old favorites: 1. Photo by Steve BerardiA starburst is when a light source (such as the sun) appears as a burst in an image, like in the photo above. Notice how there are a bunch of sharp light rays coming from the sun.

Starbursts are a nice dramatic effect you can add to your backlit photos. They’re also a nice way to add leading lines to your image, to help direct the viewer’s attention. For example, in the image above I purposely captured the starburst in the center of the frame to help direct the viewer’s eye outwards equally in all directions.

I didn’t look at any photographs there, but I’ve always been inspired by all types of artists—not just photographers. There was one artist in particular who’s work I really enjoyed: Frederic Edwin Church, who painted American landscapes in the 1800s.

There was one painting of his that really moved me: Twilight In the Wilderness. The painting depicts a sunset over wilderness near Mount Katahdin in Maine, and was painted in 1860. The painting itself is beautiful. I love grand vistas that look down into a wilderness—they help remind me of how insignificant we all are (in a good way!), one of my favorite things. Back in 2009, I wrote an article about the pros and cons of shooting in RAW vs JPEG.

My basic conclusion of the article was that it usually makes sense to shoot in RAW, except for wildlife when you need to shoot a lot of images in a burst. Like many things in life, as I’ve learned more and gained more experience with photography, my thoughts on RAW vs JPEG have changed. Now, I really appreciate the freedom you get with shooting in JPEG. What do I mean by that?

Well, there’s two things about RAW files that have increasingly bothered me over the years: the filesizes are much bigger (especially as megapixel counts increase), and not all software supports the latest RAW formats. The larger file sizes means. We have ideas on what our next products would be.

I’m often asked for recommendations about photography books. Not, mind you, books about photography, but books of photographs. Here are my current favourites.
